I’ve been working on some new code that delivers product placements from service providers directly onto my site and here it is. The great thing about this is that the service offerings are changing all the time keeping it fresh and new.

My work with Fotolia continues to show promise with another 3 sales in July and all of these my most popular image to date. Just click the link to be taken to that image.

I’ve had a WEBSHOTS account for a few years now, way back then then computers were running just 1MB RAM (yes they used to be like that) I was creating my first digital art. A friend from work told me that this company had set themselves up called WEBSHOTS and you could load up your images for free to share with the world and also have access to images uploaded by other users.

I signed up, was a little miffed that my user Id couldn’t just be Pete as that had already gone so I ended up with Pete1111 and that’s remained to this day. Over the years I dropped out of being creative and submitting art to the site for users to download for desktop wallpaper. I just didn’t have the time or energy. But for some reason I came back not so long ago and started creating once more. To my surprise whilst I was away (I still maintained my account just didn’t use it) my total number of views had increased heaps as had the total number of users and images available on the whole WEBSHOTS site.

I’m now at the stage of nearing the 1,000,000 views mark, which for me is a major achievement. I’m hoping in a few weeks that target will be reached and in preparation for the event I’ve already created my special album called Digital Illusion 1,000,000 with a single image dedicated to all my friends and fans who have helped me reach the 1,000,000 mark.

So it’s about time I share with you some of my creations on this blog to encourage you to visit WEBSHOTS and my albums to get me to the 1,000,000 mark that little bit quicker.

I must say I’m impressed with Fotolia as an organisation that I can work with. Firstly lets give you an insight into what Fotolia actually is all about. This next bit is taken directly from their site in the About Us section.

Fotolia is the first worldwide social marketplace for royalty free stock images, allowing individuals and professionals to legally buy and share stock images and illustrations.

Fotolia offers the largest image bank of free and affordable royalty free photos and illustrations perfect for any medium, web or print.

Photographers and designers constantly update Fotolia with thousands of new photos and illustrations each day, while photographers and designers receive commission from each photo sold and revenue from advertising on the free section.

Similar to the music or film industry, we believe that every artist’s (photographers and designers) image is a work of the soul and protected by intellectual property rights.

Fotolia is convinced that the principle reason for illegal pirated use of protected images is mainly due to the high price barrier created by other agencies.

Fotolia provides a compromise between photographers and buyers, by protecting a photographer’s intellectual property rights and offering high commissions, while legally lowering the price barrier so that everyone may enjoy/afford these beautiful images.

Fotolia challenges the traditional closed agency model by offering the opportunity to monetize their talents to everyone, hobbyist or professional, whatever their fame, status, or size of portfolio may be.

Thanks to our collaborative online model, Fotolia is able to offer individuals and professionals (advertising agencies, press, small business, graphic artists, designers) the greatest image collection in the world for free or as little as £ 1 .

So now you have an idea what they’re about It’s worth telling you why I’m so impressed.

I love creating art/graphics digitally. I’ve been into that sort of thing for a long time now and I’ve created thousands of images for desktop wallpaper over the years under my WEBSHOTS Id pete1111- Check them out if you want some crazy whacked out stuff for your computer desktop. They are all free so you’ve nothing to lose.

But then it occurred to me that I could perhaps use my creative juices to make a little extra income. Searching Google for a while delivered this company called Fotolia and I soon realised after reviewing their site they were the ones for me.

  1. I only have to worry about the creative element. They provide the business side.
  2. They manage all the accounts.
  3. They encourage contributor communications.
  4. They provide affiliation tools.
  5. They handle advertising.
  6. They cover a huge subject and concept range allowing me as a niche creative to get involved.

Results so far have been good, my work is up for display and I’m getting a fair amount of interest in terms of people viewing my creations and a few sales already has kept me boyant in using Fotolia as a means to generate some additional income. I’m looking at maybe a two to three year journey here in order to create sufficient images for my portfolio and for the buying community out there to get to know my creations. I’m in it for the long term but hey I love creating these things anyway so it’s no chore.

This little FLASH advert is showing off some stuff I designed for Zazzle using my art work and a few other things floating around my head at the time.

I love using WordPress so I thought rather than just use it I’d have a crack at creating my own WordPress themes so I can have a truely unique page design rather than one of the standard ones even though they themselves are cool.
Take a look and if you like the theme feel free to take it.

OK so I’m really into being creative and I therefore create lots of pieces of art, in fact thousands of them. The vast majority of these I offer to the world over the internet free of charge. Anyone can download an image I’ve created and use it for any non commercial use. That’s great and it works for me, works for the end user and works for the hosting site WEBSHOTS. If you click it should open a new window to my WEBSHOTS albums. I’ve had some of these up for a few years now and my account Id is Pete1111. Feel free to browse and download what you want, they make nice background images for your desktop, which was the original intent when I first started creating.

So free is cool…

But I also like the idea of selling my art in a variety of mediums such as cards, prints, posters, mouse mats, mugs, t-shirts… the list goes on. At first this seems like a daunting task until you quickly do a search on Google and find there are many company’s out there offering artists the ability to upload their work and sell it without having to break a sweat on any of the messy bits such as web site design, hosting fees, manufacturing processes, credit card facilities etc… in fact you only have to concentrate on making the art the bit I like.

So I’m selling stuff on Fotolia a great place to pick up Royalty free stock images.

I just realised that I’ve only showed my very latest piece of art with you all which seemed a little mean so I’ve created a sub page to the main art page (now aren’t I clever) with some samples of the art work I get into. If you’d like any full size images of the work let me know.

This is my latest piece of work ‘Ovaloid pitted sphere’. Like all my work I’m 100% digital meaning that I use my computer to create the art rather than any traditional methods. I do use photographs in some of my work but these are always digitised so they can be manipulated.

This particular piece started life as a simple sphere. A grid of squares was constructed over the surface of the sphere and for each of those grids a decision was made an how many objects should be present. For each object I pulled out some of the sphere to make a pimple. I then pushed back in the centre of the raised pimple to get the effect you see in the art work.

The final task was to colour the image.

The work was then transferred to a print bureau for printing to canvas A0 size.

The end result is a digital creation preseted in a traditional canvas format.

If you click on the image it should open up full size for you so you can grab a copy for yourself if you want it on your desktop or something.
